MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT: Monday evening, the 19th, at five o’clock, as Daniel McCormick, formerly of Letterkenny, one of the labourers employed at the Church, was removing a scaffolding pole, near the top of the tower, a nail in the end of the pole caught his sleeve and pulled him off the scaffold, when he fell to the ground, a distance of upwards of sixty feet, and was taken up a lifeless corpse. Immediately medical assistance was afforded by Sir John Maginnis and Dr. Skipton, but without effect. - He has left a disconsolate widow and three children to deplore his untimely fate. We have no doubt that they will experience the sympathy of a humane public, and especially of deceased’s employers, Messrs. Henry, Mullins, and McMahon, as he had wrought at the Church from the commencement, and had always conducted himself well. ----- Derry Journal. [Strabane Morning Post] |
