RAMELTON PETTY SESSIONS
ILLICIT DISTILLATION
Sub-Inspector Smith prosecuted James Malseed, Drimaboden, for having had in a house on his farm two stills, two still-heads, a worm, and 60 gallons of wash, for the purpose of illicit distillation.
Constable Donnelly, Kilmacrenan, deposed he found the above articles on the 25th January last in a house on a farm belonging to and occupied by James Malseed.
Defendant said the house was left as a freedom to the person from whom he had purchased the farm, and that person had left it and gone to the Workhouse. He had no knowledge of what was found being in the house.
The case was dismissed, and notice of appeal was given. A few cases of drunkenness were next disposed of, and the Court rose (Londonderry Journal)

SHOCKING DEATH BY BURNING. Letterkenny, Tuesday. – Yesterday, Mr. Ramsay, coroner, and a jury, held an inquest touching the death of Catherine Malseed, age one year, and a daughter of Mr. Henry Malseed, Dooen Glebe. On Wednesday, Mrs. Malseed had occasion to leave her house for a short time, leaving her infant child secure, as she thought, between two chairs on the kitchen floor. On her return she was horrified to find her child lying with her head in the fire, and a portion of her skull burned. The infant survived only until next day, when death put an end to her sufferings.
