CUMBER AND BANAGHER FARMING SOCIETY

The annual ploughing match of this society was held yesterday, in a field belonging to Mr. George McLaughlin, Killaloo. Eleven ploughs entered for competition, and performed the work in good style, and within the given time.

The dinner, which was held in Mrs. D. Ritchie’s, Claudy, was well served. Mr. James Craig, Ballymaclenaghan, occupied the chair.

After the cloth had been removed, the usual loyal toasts were given and responded to.

The following award was then read by the secretary:

1st Joseph Allen, winner of the cup for the third and last time

2nd Mr. Robert Lyle

3rd Mr. George Baird winner of the double mould-board plough

4th Mr. Jas. Miller

5th Mr. Marshall Eakin

6th Mr. Samuel Irwin

7th Mr. John McGuire

8th Mr. Francis Cochrane

9th Mr. Hugh McCullough

10th Mr. David Riddle

11th Mr. George McLaughlin

The Chairman then gave the health of Mr. Allen the winner of the cup. In doing so he complimented Mr. Allen on being the winner of the cup for the third year in succession.

Mr. Allen responded, and said he would subscribe £1 to the funds next year.
