BALLYGAWLEY

1. This Market is held on every second FRIDAY

2. The Market commences at ten o’clock, from March the 25th to September the 25th; and at eleven o’clock from September the 25th to March the 25th. All is sold in from half an hour to an hour after the Market commences.

3. The Market is held in the open street, in the centre of the town.

4. The Linens brought to the market are seven-eighth wide, from nine hundred to eleven hundred, and from forty-eight to fifty-two yards long, and thirty-two inches broad.

5. The average price of the Linen brought to this Market is from 10d. to 14d. per yard.

6. The Yarn goes through a process of bleaching before it is made into Linen. No half-bleached Linen is sold in this Market.

7. The Linen sold in this Market is principally bleached in this County: some of it is consumed here, and the remainder exported white.

8. All Linens brought to this Market is exposed to sale at the same hour of the day.

9. The average number of Webs sold in this Market may said to be two hundred and sixty double pieces. Value about £650.

10. All the Weavers who come to this Market, reside in this County.

11. About two hundred Weavers, on an average, attend this Market.

12. From fifteen to twenty-five Buyers, upon an average, attend this Market.

13. Of the numbers of Buyers who attend this Market, ten are principals and fifteen are Commissioners.
