Feb 11 1870

SIXMILECROSS PETTY SESSIONS

Before Richard C. Brush, Thomas Mann, and Geo. A. Molony, Esq., the Sub-Inspector of the district. Mr. W. Purcell, was also present, and had a seat on the bench.

Sub-constable Thomas Lang, Beragh v. James Ternan, servant to John Crawford, of Urnagh (sic), for resisting and assaulting complainant, and others of the force, and arresting him for being drunk and disorderly at Beragh on the night of the 4th February. Ordered to be imprisoned by the keeper of the gaol at Omagh, for the period of two months with hard labour

Same Sub-constable v. James Foster of Omagh, for being drunk on 26th January, fined 2s 6d and 1s costs

Same Sub-constable v. Brian Donnelly, of Beragh, for being drunk on the 25th January, on the public street in Beragh, fined 2s 6d and 1s costs, and was cautioned by Mr. Molony. R.M., to take more care of himself in the future.

Owen Conroy, Altamooskan, v. Hugh McMahon, Altcloghfin, for cattle trespass, to pay 1s 6d and 10s costs

Michael Haughey, of Creggan v. John Mullen, of Ballintrain, refusing to pay 5s due for balance of wages, ordered to pay same and 2s 6d costs. There were a few cases for small debts, trespass &c., disposed of, and others settled out of court

 

May 13 1870

SIXMILECROSS PETTY SESSIONS

Before Richard C. Brush, Esq., J.P., and Capt. Deane Mann, J.P., W. F. Purcell, Esq., Sun-Inspector, was also present.

Peter Donnelly, Tattyreagh, for travelling in a carriage on the Ulster Railway between Sixmilecross and Beragh, without previously paid his fare, was fined 10s and costs.

The case against Arthur Owens, of Cloghfin, for like offence, was nor proceeded with, a settlement having been agreed to.

David Clements, for an assault on James McClarin, Sixmilecross, was fined 10s and costs.

The following persons were fined for having dogs in their possession not duly licensed: Margaret Mullan and Peter Mullan, Aghnagar

Archibald Beggs, Benchran

Robert Kilpatrick, Cur (sic)

Andrew McCormick, Lisbuoy

Patrick Donnelly, of Cavanreagh, was fined for being drunk.


June 17 1870

SIXMILECROSS PETTY SESSIONS

Before Rev. R. V. Dixon, D.D.

Joseph McCormick, Kilcan (sic), and James Smith, Ramackan, were each fined 5s and costs for fighting on the public streets of Sixmilecross on the 19th ult.

Peter McKenna and Rose McKenna, Ramackan, husband and wife, were charged with like offence on same date. A caution having been administered to them they were allowed out on paying costs of court.

Margaret Dunbar, Donaghanie, was fined 2s 6d and costs for assaulting a little boy named Thomas Robinson.

Mary Meenagh, Ramackan,

Bernard Gormerly, Kilcan (sic)

and

John McCoy, Redergan, were fined each 2s6d and costs for having unlicensed dogs in their possession.

John Hughes of Legilly, near Dungannon, was returned for trial at the ensuing Quarter Sessions at Omagh, on a charges of taking and carrying away a cow, the property of William Walker, Mountjoy Forest East, on the 19th ult.


August 12 1870

SIXMILECROSS PETTY SESSIONS

Before Geo. A Molony, Esq., R.M., Capt. Deane Mann and Thomas Mann, Esq.. W. F. Purcell, Esq., S.I., R.I.C., was also present

Thomas Moore, Altmore, was charged by Michael Donnelly, of Gortfin, with threatening his life at latter place, on the 22nd June, last. Defendant was put under a Rule of Bail – himself in £10 and two sureties in £5 each - to keep the peace for twelve months.

Mary Kelly of Ramackin, charged Patrick Sharkey, of same place, with an assault on the 30th July last. Mr. Elliott, Solicitor, Omagh, appeared for defendant. The evidence was very conflicting. Fined 5s and costs.

Bernard McCullagh, Ramackin, charged Patrick Sharkey with a trespass on lands, the property of complainant in July last. Postponed until next Court Day for the decision of Mr. Brush, J.P.

Constable Hayes, Beragh, summoned Pat Kelly, Tattykeeran, and Patrick Tierney, of Ramackin for having unlicensed dogs in their possession. Fined 2s 6d each and costs.

Same Constable summoned Thos. McCrory, Cavanreagh, for furiously riding a horse on 19th July, in Sixmilecross. Fined 1s and costs. A few other cases were settled out of Court


Nov 11 1870

SIXMILECROSS PETTY SESSIONS

Before Capt. Dean Mann, and G. A. Molony, Esq., R.M. The Sub-Inspector of Constabulary, W. F. Purcell, Esq., was also present.

James Rafferty, Beragh, v. Michael Donnelly, Beragh. Charged with stealing a one-pound-note from the complainant in the house of widow Jane McKelvey, during the night of the 23rd or morning of the 24th October.

This case has been returned for trial at the next Quarter Sessions to be held at Omagh, the accused having been admitted to bail.

Constables McElhinny and Hayes v. John Mullen, of Foremass Lower. For endeavouring to excite a disorderly mob, on the last fair night of Sixmilecross, 19th ult., and for obstructing the Constabulary in the execution of their duty, they having a prisoner arrested at the time.

Fined 40s and costs which was paid.

Same Constable v. Patrick McGarvey, of Lurganboy. Who on the last fair night of Sixmilecross, 19th ult., was one of the disorderly party who refused to leave the public house of John Devlin of Sixmilecross.

This being the first offence of this kind, he was fined 20s and costs. The fine was paid.

John Donnelly, Beragh, Wm. Dick, and Edward Corr, Glenbeg, were each fined 1s and costs for drunkenness.

Ann Crooks, Ballyhallaghan v. Michael Campbell, of Rallyhallaghan (sic). For an assault. This case, arising out of a family quarrel, was referred to the Rev. Mr. Quinn, of Beragh.

A few other cases of cattle trespass &c., were disposed of, and the Court rose.
