OMAGH QUARTER SESSIONS

The crown business of these sessions commenced on Monday last, the 25th instant, before the worshipful RICHARD NUN, Esq., Q.C., when the grand jury were sworn:

The business occupied the court until Wednesday evening. The following is an abstract of the cases tried:

BERNARD IRWIN

for having, on 6th April last, stolen two hens, the property of BRIDGET TONER, of Fintona. Guilty, to be imprisoned three days

MICHAEL SLAVIN

for having on 23rd April last, at Badoney, stolen two pigs, the property of PETER MGAUGHEY. Guilty, to be imprisoned two months and twice whipped

JAMES McCABE

for stolen five hens, on 21st May last, at Tattysallagh, the property of MARY McLAUGHLIN. Guilty, to be imprisoned 12 months

JOHN DONNELLY

for having stolen a rope, on 22nd May last, at Omagh, the property of EDWARD McHUGH. Guilty, to be imprisoned two months, with hard labour

ALEXANDER GILMOUR

for having, on 21st May last, stolen a quantity of wearing apparel, from Omagh union workhouse. Guilty, to be imprisoned three months

for having on 3rd June last, at Castlederg, broken into the dwelling house of WM. CRAIG, and stolen some bread therefrom. Guilty, to be imprisoned two months with hard labour

for having, on 22nd May last, at Omagh, stolen several articles, the property of JAMES McMENAMIN. Guilty, to be imprisoned for two months with hard labour

for having on 29th May last, at Curr, assaulted JOSEPH BARR. Not guilty

for having assaulted PATRICK McRORY, on 30th April last at Glencrew. Not guilty

for having assaulted JOHN PATTERSON, on 17th March last, at Curr. Not guilty

for having assaulted QUINTIN DIVIN, at Badoney, on 17th March last. Guilty, to be imprisoned one month of pay 5 shillings

CATHERINE KELLY & MARY KELLY

for having, on the 7th May last, at Glenmacoffer, stolen one gown, the property of JANE McKENNA. Guilty, to be imprisoned three months

EDWARD McSORLEY & MICHAEL McSORLEY

for having assaulted HUGH GALLAGHER, at Nn-Stewart, on 19th March last. Not guilty

JOHN YOUNG

for having on 29th May last, at Strabane, stolen one loaf of bread, the property of CON. McRORY. Guilty, to be imprisoned one month with hard labour

JOHN JOHNSTON

for having, on the 24th April last, at Castlegore, stolen two years and one lamb, the property of ANDREW WASON. Guilty

SARAH KYLE

for having, on 22nd April last, at Strabane, received two ewes. Guilty.

JAMES CUNNINGHAM

for having on the 15th February last, stolen several articles of clothing from Strabane workhouse. Submitted, to be imprisoned three months

ARCHIBALD ALEXANDER, ANNE SPROULE & WM. GRAHAM

for having assaulted JOHN MARTIN, at Dromore, on 26 th April last. This case arouse out of the rescue case reported in a former number of this paper and occupied the court for a considerable time. It appeared that Mr. Martin had been obstructed and assaulted by one of the defendants, Mrs Sproule, while endeavouring to execute a fiat against her husband, on the part of Mr. Donnelly; and the other defendants were charged with having aided in the obstruction and assault.

The jury returned a verdict of guilty against Mrs Sproule, who was sentenced to be imprisoned 3 months or pay a fine of £5. The other defendants were acquitted.
