Urney Presbyterian Church, Bells Park Road, Somervillestown, Co. Tyrone
CONGREGATION ESTABLISHED 1654
On Monday, the 10th November, the Presbyterian Church of Urney, after undergoing extensive repairs, was opened by the Rev. Henry Cooke, D.D., L.L.D., who preached a most eloquent sermon to a very crowded and delighted audience. It was very cheering to have witnessed such a numerous assembly, composed of individuals of every religious denomination in this neighbourhood listening with breathless attention to the justly celebrated preacher’s powerful appeals, and thereby fully verifying the language of the Psalmist – “Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity”. The Doctor’s visit to this place will be long remembered much good., and the impression he has made, will, under the Divine blessing will be productive of much good.
There were present on the occasion, ministers of the Established and Methodist Churches, and about twenty ministers of the General Assembly. After sermon, a collection was taken up, which amounted to the sum of £95.7s., including £1 each from the following gentlemen who could not attend:
