JONES. A most distressing accident occurred at Ballyshannon last week. Miss Jones, daughter of CaptainJones, of the Donegal Militia, an amiable and interested young lady, was unfortunately drowned while bathing in the sea contiguous to the town. The tide had been out, and she ventured too near the Channel, into which she glided, and she was unable to recover herself (Fleming’s Weekly Express)

SHEIL (O’CONNOR) Of fever, at Ballyshannon, on the 31st ult. in her 43rd year, Alicia, wife of Doctor Sheil. She was the fourth daughter of Denis O’Connor, Esq., Ballynagar, sister to the present O’CONNOR DON, and granddaughter of the learned antiquarian, the late Charles O’Connor, Esq., member of the Royal Irish Academy. Although descended from a family whose distinguished rank is intimately interwoven with the annals of Ireland, her character was chiefly marked by the most amiable humility. She possessed a cheerfulness of mind of the chastest cast great benevolence of disposition, and piety the most unobtrusive and unaffected (Strabane Morning Post)

DAWLEY. Awful Visitation : On Sunday, the 6th instant a man named Dawley, residing in Kildoney, near Ballyshannon, was preparing with his family to go to divine service, but remained behind stating that he would overtake them. When they went out he knelt down at his bedside to pray, and in that situation was he found by his disconsolate wife and children on their return. DRAKE & LIPSETT. Captain Drake of the 92nd Highlanders and Henry Lipsett of Londonderry were drowned in the River Foyle on Tuesday last. They had been out sailing and when turning the sand bank at Coolnarget the boat partly capsized and was filled with water. Both men jumped into the water and sank. When they rose they tried to swim ashore but a wave struck them, and both went down together and were presumably washed out to sea. Captain Drake was young, unmarried and heir to a large property. Mr. Lipsett was a young man who was married upwards of a year to a daughter of the late CaptainMcIntire of this City [marriage at Ballyshannon announced April 5 1845], by whom he had one child. Yesterday evening the body of Captain Drake was discovered by some persons who brought it to shore and they had it conveyed to the barracks(Londonderry Sentinel)
